Now schools have finally returned, we are launching a variety of opportunities designed to help children and young people grow in confidence, develop their creativity and become part of a community beyond the classroom.

At the Octagon, we believe every young person should have the chance to access the arts, discover their potential and find a space where they belong.

Whether they're completely new to theatre or already have ambitions of performing on our main stage, we’re proud to offer clear pathways for young people to grow as performers and individuals. Theatre has the power to change lives, and we're passionate about making those opportunities accessible to everyone, including offering supported places to those experiencing financial barriers.”

Bolton is ranked as the 34th most deprived local authority in England, with 32.2% of children and young people growing up in poverty. For many families, opportunities to experience and participate in theatre can feel out of reach, despite the proven benefits that creative participation can have on young people's wellbeing, confidence, communication skills and self-expression.

The Octagon believes every young person should have access to those opportunities, regardless of their background.

Supported places are also offered as financial assistance to participants experiencing financial hardship thanks to the generosity of funders. The Octagon acknowledges that there are communities currently underrepresented within their participation groups and actively encourage applicants from Black, Asian and Global majority backgrounds. Applications and bookings are now open, with opportunities available for a range of ages and experience levels.

With more than 100 young people taking part in activities at the Octagon every week, our programmes provide opportunities to develop creativity, communication skills and confidence, all while making new friends and having fun in a supportive environment.
