News Story
We are the latest host venue of the Talkin’ Tables initiative, which creates facilitated inclusive spaces that allow people to meet and connect with others in their community.
Commencing on 26 July, every Friday morning between 11am-12pm members of the public can attend the Octagon Kitchen & Bar where they can come together and enjoy a drink and a chat in a safe and inclusive environment.
The venue will have an allocated table with a table host to welcome anyone wishing to attend.
The scheme was first launched in Chorley in 2021 and now has an impressive 80 host venues across the country welcoming local people from their community every week.
Talkin’ Tables was born out of the desire to bring people together and tackle isolation and loneliness, encouraging human connection. It provides an inviting and friendly environment to meet new people, socialise and make friends.
Marjorie Hayward, a member of the Talkin’ Tables initiative commented: “The launch of Talkin’ Table at the Octagon Kitchen & Bar is an important milestone in conquering loneliness in Bolton. The Octagon is a central location which has easy access for anyone feeling socially isolated, left out or on their own.
“This will be the ninth table in the Bolton area and will offer a really warm welcome to anyone who wants to join in for good company, good chatting and good friendships.
“Please come and join in and enjoy a rich social existence. You are guaranteed a warm welcome from the Table Leader. See our web page for other venues around Bolton and beyond, talkintables.co.uk.”
Alex Joynes, Adult and Communities Lead at the Octagon added: “We are delighted to be hosting Talkin' Tables at the Octagon. It's such a worthwhile scheme and one that we are looking forward to starting here.”
It is free to attend and welcome to all. There is no booking required, simply turn up at the Octagon Kitchen & Bar on the day.
The first session will take place at the Octagon Kitchen & Bar on Friday 26 July from 11am-12pm.
