News Story

We are taking storytelling on tour once again this summer, when our free interactive family storytelling sessions, as part of our Sharing Stories project, returns for its second year of library tours across Bolton libraries.

Launched in 2022, our three-year Sharing Stories community project works with families across Bolton to co-design storytelling, creative and literacy-based activities for young people.

Visiting seven libraries during the summer holidays, families can enjoy a live story reading of popular children’s books, followed by an exciting creative session, with activities varying from dance, puppetry, arts and crafts.

Libraries on the tour include: Central Library (Sat 20 July); Farnworth Library (Fri 26 July); Westhoughton Library (Mon 29 July); Breightmet Library (Tue 6 August); High Street Library (Thu 15 August); Little Lever Library (Tue 20 August); and Horwich Library (Fri 30 August);

Each venue will have 2 sessions available: 11am and 1.30pm. (Except Central Library which has 3 sessions – 11.30am, 1.30pm & 2.30pm and High Street Library which will have 1 session at 1:30pm).

Each venue will include a different story and a new activity, so families are welcome to attend more than one event. All the sessions will last approximately 45 minutes, are free to attend, and no booking is required. Please arrive at the start time.

The sessions are suitable for all the family including babies, toddlers and children up to 11 years old and their grown-ups.

The Octagon Family Engagement Lead, Taylor Barnes said on the return of the library tour:We are so excited for the return of the Sharing Stories Library Tour for a second year. From the success of the first year of our Sharing Stories project, it is now a real highlight of the Octagon's summer family offer. With amazing support from our partners Bolton Libraries and Museums, we can't wait to bring lots of magical moments for families to enjoy as we journey across seven libraires in Bolton.”

These storytelling sessions will form part of our summer family programme, which also includes the return of our annual free Family Festival which takes place during the August Bank Holiday weekend – providing three fun-filled days of indoor and outdoor family activities.
