About Rusti Lee

Born in Jamaica Rustie came to England when she was 5 years old to be reunited with her parents. Rustie’s parents had their own business in Birmingham. Rustie was educated at Handsworth All Girl School and after finishing school joined the Birmingham College of food from where she later graduated with distinction as a master baker.

Rustie continued her career in food by working for a number of catering companies in the UK and in the early eighties she opened her own Restaurant amply named ‘’Rustie’s’’ in Birmingham. ‘’Rustie’s’’ was the first Silver Service Caribbean Restaurant in the country and drew clients from all over the UK. Rustie’s second love had always been singing and she made a name for herself touring all over the UK culminating in being elected singer of the year on a number of occasions.

In the early eighties Rustie made her first TV appearance on Pebble Mill at One with the late Eric Morcambe and her TV career took off from there. Rustie became a resident chef on TVam, Britain’s then Top morning show and went on to became the first ever black woman to co present a British Saturday Prime Time Network show, Game for a Laugh.

Rustie has been a guest on numerous programmes for all networks and had also produced and presented her own radio show for BBC West Midlands.

She has recorded a number of records and has starred in West End shows like Ain’t Misbehavin’, South Pacific and Smokey Joe’s Café.

Rustie had to turn down a lot of work due to various health issues between 2000 and 2006 but started to work again in 2007/8 when she joint the cast of the BBC’s flag ship soap ‘’Eastenders’’ for two episodes and was invited to participate in ITV One’s ‘’Loose Women’’. 2007 also saw the release of her last cookbook

‘’A Taste Of The Caribbean’’

Another health related set back followed early in 2009 but she still managed a number of well received appearances on the Alan Titchmarsh Show.

2010 had seen Rustie return to the Alan Titchmarsh Show and ITV 1’s This Morning.

Since she has continued her TV appearances featuring in a number of high profile productions including ITV 1’s Benidorm and Channel 5’s ‘’Celebrity Super Spa’’ . She has declined numerous approaches to get her to join the cast of ‘’ I’m a Celebrity – Get Me Out Of Here’’ and ‘’Big Brother’’.

However she did join the cast of BBC 1’s ‘’Marigold II’’ for a four part documentary which was broadcast in February 2017 and achieved 8.5 million viewers on average, making it a big hit for the BBC.

Rustie also returned to ITV1’s ‘’Loose Women’’.

Following the great success of the ‘’Marigold’’ series Rustie followed this up with ‘’Marigold On Tour’’ for the BBC and ‘’Five In Search Of Santa’’ a 90 minutes pre - Christmas documentary/travel log for Channel 5.

Both shows were ratings successes for the respective networks.

2018 saw Rustie returning to Channel 5’s ‘’Big Brother’s Bit on the Side’’ as a regular panellist.

Since 2019 she has continued with shows like Tipping Point, Pointless, Celebrity Coach Trip, Tenable and DNA Diner to name but a few.

2022 has seen her taking part in BBC1’s ‘’The Wheel’’, Pointless Celebrities, Celebrity Gogglebox and she will continue to guest on This Morning.
