About Awaaz Writing Workshop

Are you curious about identity, self-expression and culture? This interactive workshop is designed for young creatives looking to explore more about themselves through creative writing.

Through participating in writing exercises, exciting games and explorative group discussions, we will learn how to tell our personal stories and describe our identities through the vibrant lens’ of colour. We will look at a modern example of poetry by South Asian Poet, Aimee Nezhukumatathil titled ‘I Could Be a Whale Shark,’ to understand how storytellers use vivid imagery, emotions, and thoughtful language to express ideas about identity and self-reflection.

Whether you identify as South Asian or simply want to define what identity means to you in an expressive way, this is a safe space to reflect, connect with other young artists and share stories with each other.

By the end of this workshop, you will have understood how culture and personal stories shape identity and leave with your own evocative piece of poetry or prose, showcasing the richness and beauty of your individual self.

No prior writing experience is needed, just an enthusiasm for exploration and most importantly, having fun! Let’s celebrate the richness of identity together in a welcoming and inspiring atmosphere!
