Job Description

Assistant Stage Manager (Two Roles)

The Octagon is a thriving and award-winning regional producing theatre that makes work for local and national audiences and engages our diverse communities in a wide range of creative, life enhancing opportunities. We are known for being a friendly, welcoming theatre and have a track record of nourishing careers on and off-stage.

We are recruiting two Assistant Stage Managers to join the stage management team for our Christmas production of Cinderella: A Fairytale, directed by Sarah Punshon. Working alongside the Company Stage Manager and Deputy Stage Manager, the successful candidates will play an important role in supporting rehearsals and ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the production.
The first Assistant Stage Manager will join the production from the start of rehearsals and, alongside the Company Stage Manager, will take a lead role in sourcing, making and maintaining props. The second Assistant Stage Manager will join in Week 4 of rehearsals and, together with the first ASM, will create and run the two backstage stage management tracks for the production. One of the roles will also include Book Cover duties.

Contract Dates:
ASM 1: 19th October - 9th January
ASM 2: 9th November - 9th January

Our position on AI in recruitment

We believe in human creativity and take a human-centred approach to recruitment. This means applications are read and decided by people, not algorithms. Shortlisting is based on objective criteria for the job. In making your application, please write in your own words reflecting who you are, your skills and experience. You may use AI as a supportive tool and to aid accessibility. Applications that are clearly artificial, rely on generic statements, or remove your individuality will struggle to demonstrate the criteria required.
