About Abstract Arabic Calligraphy Workshop
This workshop is designed to introduce participants to the beauty of abstract Arabic Calligraphy
It combines the traditional elegance of Arabic script with a modern abstract approach to explore the fluidity, shapes and forms of the Arabic Alphabet. Participants will engage with both the technical aspects of calligraphy and the creative expression that comes with abstract art.
Objective:
By the end of the workshop, participants will:
Understand the basics of Arabic Calligraphy, focusing on shapes, flow and letter-forms.
Learn how to deconstruct the traditional script into abstract forms
Create their own abstract Arabic calligraphy piece using various mediums and techniques.
WORKSHOP:
Welcome and introductions.
Introduction to Arabic Calligraphy- briefly introduce the significance and history of Arabic.
Calligraphy:
Visual inspiration- show examples of modern abstract art. Hassan Massoudy/Dia Azzauri and how they play with shapes, lines and letter-forms.
Exploring the basics of letter-forms.
Introduction to Arabic letters. Introduce participants to a few basic Arabic letters (such as Alif, Baa, Tha) and their distinct forms.
Calligraphy techniques- demonstrate the technique for writing the letters in a traditional clean form.
Focus on:
Correct posture and grip of the pen.
Flow and consistency of lines.
The importance of proportion and spacing.
Family Calligraphy Art Workshop
Families and children will have the opportunity to work on using calligraphy to inspire pictures and cards which they can share with family and friends. This workshop will take place alongside the adults session in the same space.
