For our main stage productions we hold audition days and recalls in both Bolton and London locations.
We hold ‘general’ auditions annually to meet a wide selection of actors who are based within a 25 mile radius of the Octagon. These auditions meaningfully feed into the casting of our productions, creative engagement work and other projects across the year.
We tend not to use external casting directors but to cast productions in house. The Casting Director at the Octagon Theatre is Olivia Barr, her productions include Peter Pan, An Adventure, Kes, One Man, Two Guvnor's.
Any professional actor can submit their details to our casting department by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org and we will keep their details on file for potential future auditions. Please note, this email address is not monitored full-time.
In 2019 we met 80 local actors at our general auditions. We have gone on to employ several of these actors, across our full productions, our First Bite play readings and other paid performance opportunities, including work with our creative engagement team and our recent One Night in Bolton radio monologues. Across our main stage productions in 2019-20, approximately half of the actors we employed were Greater Manchester-based (48%).
Our 2020 general auditions have recently taken place online. We were delighted to meet with another 80 locally based actors, who we will keep in mind for future opportunities.
We will be holding another round of general auditions in 2022.
We’d like to thank all actors who express an interest in the Octagon. We appreciate and value your talent, passion and commitment.
