Explore how to turn your life experiences into a story for the stage in this online workshop with writer and actor Shamia Chalabi. 

After the session, all writers attending this workshop are invited to submit a short piece of work to the Octagon to receive written feedback from the Literary team. 

Shamia Chalabi

Shamia Chalabi is an actor and writer of mixed British and Egyptian heritage. Burkas and Bacon Butties is Shamia's first full-length play and was co-written with Sarah Henley. The play is a comedy, based on Shamia's real-life experiences. It gently explores the clashes, compromises and ultimately the comedy that comes with living in a mixed-culture family in contemporary Britain. After a sell-out run at VAULT Festival in 2018, It was published by NHB as a part of the Vault Anthology. Since then it has been workshopped by The RSC, featured in the Octagon's 'First Bites' series and received Arts Council funding for a full run later in 2021. Shamia and Sarah are also currently developing it for TV.
Recent theatre credits include Tamburlaine and Tartuffe (RSC), TV credits include: Law and Order UK, Eastenders, BBC Doctors.
