Our Octagon Women’s Group works with asylum seekers and refugees to enable women to be creative and build confidence and language skills through Drama workshops.

Departure and Arrival form significant parts of the refugee experience and we were inspired by the journey and subsequent adventures that Shirley embarks upon in ‘Shirley Valentine’, to explore these themes in our drama sessions. Travelling can be a transformative experience, and as a response to the Willy Russell’s play, we’ve spent some time exploring what ideas of departing and arriving mean to us.

We’ll be sharing a short performance of poetry before the matinee on Wednesday 26 February and we’d love you to join us. This is a free event, but you will need to book due to limited capacity.
