Should I ring the box office?

No. At the moment, due to Covid-19, we have a smaller box office team. We’ll be getting in touch with everyone who has tickets affected by phone or email.

I have tickets, what are my options?

If you have tickets for A Christmas Carol you will be offered the following options:

  • Transferring your current tickets to the same seats for the equivalent performance next year.
  • A credit note with the Octagon for the purchase of future tickets or Membership. 
  • Donating the full or partial value of your tickets to support the theatre which is a registered charity.
  • A full and immediate refund back to your payment card. 

If you have tickets for An Adventure or The Book Thief, or One Night in Bolton you will be contacted with the following options:

  • A credit note with the Octagon for the purchase of future tickets or Membership. 
  • Donating the full or partial value of your tickets to support the theatre which is a registered charity. 
  • A full and immediate refund back to your payment card.

Why have the shows been cancelled?

Due to Covid-19 the building work for the theatre has been delayed and therefore the building will not be ready until much later than originally planned. We also have no clear guidance of when theatres will be able to open without social distancing. Typically we need to sell 75% of seats for a show to be financially viable. With social distancing in place it could restrict our capacity to as little as 25%. We have had to therefore make the difficult decision to postpone the previously announced productions to ensure the long term future of the theatre.

Will there be anything instead of the festive show this year?

We are currently looking at a few smaller scale options to make sure that there are some Christmas festivities at the Octagon. We will announce the details and how to book later in the year.

If I’ve reserved my tickets what happens?

For A Christmas Carol our Box Office will be in touch and you’ll be able to transfer your reservation to next years show with an amended date to pay for your tickets by. For An Adventure and The Book Thief we will be in touch when we have confirmed rescheduled dates.

I’ve not bought ticket yet, when can I buy them for the rescheduled dates?

A Christmas Carol 2021/22 will be available for priority booking for Members and groups/school bookings on Mon 14 September. Bookings will open for all on Fri 18 September. We are still working on finding alternative dates for An Adventure and The Book Thief and will announce these in due course.

When will the Octagon have shows again?  

We are currently planning on small scale events and activities to take place over December with the first productions in the main theatre in early 2021. We are developing a programme that will allow a scale of production that will be both artistically exciting and practically manageable in light of any restrictions that might still be in place. We will announce a new programme of events and booking details in the autumn.

Coronavirus has been around for a few months, why has this decision been made now?

The pandemic has been particularly challenging for long, medium and even short-term planning. In April we felt confident that our building would be able to open in the autumn and our programme of events from November onwards would be unaffected, but as time progressed and the situation unfolded we started to do detailed risk assessments and financial modelling to examine the viability of opening with a full scale production this year. That modelling takes time, and with each government announcement has changed. It’s only very recently we’ve reached the sad conclusion that the risk of going ahead with the planned productions is too great. We want shows back on our stages as soon as possible but not at the cost of losing the organisation.

Can I move my tickets for A Christmas Carol to any performance next year?

Yes, when the Box Office will be in touch to confirm the transfer of your tickets you will be able to discuss the details of dates.

If I decide to opt for a credit note how long does that last for?

We have extended all credit to last for 18 months during this period. Within that time you can use the credit to book for shows or purchase a Membership. We will contact you when you have 1 month left of your credit to remind you.

How can I support the Octagon through this difficult time?

With the delay to the reopening and the challenges of hosting performances with social distancing we are facing the most challenging time in the organisations history. We have been grateful for the support shown so far with the Octagon Future Fund – thank you to everyone who has donated. We are asking audiences to keep supporting the theatre through making regular donations from either becoming a Member or Patron from as little as £3 a month. Find out more and join here. 

When will One Night In Bolton be scheduled to?

As the delay to the reopening and being able to resume rehearsals with our Young Company has been further pushed back we have taken the decision to transfer the play into a radio play that will be available for audiences to listen to. We are confirming the details of this with the Young Company and will announce further details of how to listen in due course. If you had purchased tickets for the performance you will be offered options for credit note, donation or refund.

When the Octagon opens in December what will there be to do?

Our new Kitchen & Bar will be opening from December, a friendly place for eating, drinking and socializing. We will also be hosting a number of creative workshops and festive activities and events for families to enjoy together – details of these will be announced in the autumn.
