Volunteer

At the Octagon Theatre, we work hard to bring stories to life on our stages, to build confidence and skills with our participation programme and ensure all of our audiences have the best experience possible.

In order to do this we rely on the help and support of our volunteers.

There are several ways you could be involved in volunteering at the Octagon. Please see below for more details:

Front of House

Front of House Volunteers act as greeters before our performances and at the interval - either in our foyer checking customer tickets or in our bar area assisting customers with the cloakroom.

Volunteer Greeters are the first point of contact for our customers, so it’s essential that our Greeters are smiling, sociable people who can remain calm when things can be a little hectic!

"I love welcoming people in to the theatre, sharing their excitement before the show and hearing their comments at the interval and end of show."

'Volunteer ‘meeter and greeter’, Linda Adams.

Youth Projects

We have a huge team of volunteers without whom the youth and community work we do would not be possible. These volunteers work on various projects and schemes, some of which are intensive one off projects and others are longer term schemes (such as Youth Theatre).

Our volunteers are vital to the supportive and inclusive environments of our youth and community groups. Sessions span a ten week term (with a break for half-term) and take place in evenings and over weekends. Each group has a specific age range or intent which gives volunteers the possibility to be in involved in a group best suited to them.

The role involves assisting the group’s Facilitator in warm-ups and activities as well as working with the participants on developing their ideas. Through this, our volunteers have the opportunity to learn, build on their own skills and gain confidence in working with participants.

No experience is required, although we do ask for commitment, enthusiasm and a willingness to get involved. Volunteers must be over 18. All volunteering is subject to an enhanced DBS check. As a thank you for your hard work, you’ll be eligible for discounted tickets during the term that you’ve committed to.
