Why are you making these changes?
At 50 years old, our building was no longer accessible enough, big enough or modern enough to withstand the next five decades. We needed to make these essential improvements now to ensure that our building will be welcoming, accessible and open for audiences and artists for another 50 years to come.
How long will the work take?
The work will began in summer 2018 and the building is set to be complete in spring 2020, with opening celebrations over the summer and first full production in the autumn.
How can I help?

Where will youth theatre and other groups be?
During the time our town centre building will be closed we have created an Octagon Theatre hub at the Market Place Shopping centre which is where our box office, cafe and youth theatre groups are now based.

Tickets are available to book as usual on the phone, online and in person at our box office on the first floor of the Market Place shopping centre (next to Debenhams) - find out more.

We have moved our café to the Market Place shopping centre during the time out of the building - find out more
What will change? Will the auditorium stay the same?
There will be significant changes to the building including a new entrance and revamped café and bar areas. Find out about more about the changes here. We will be keeping much of what makes our unique auditorium such an intimate and atmospheric space.
