Young Company casting call for Dickens classic 'A Christmas Carol'

We are searching for 12 young people to be a part of their festive production

Octagon Theatre Bolton are looking to cast 12 young people for this year’s festive production, A Christmas Carol, to play a variety of roles including Tiny Tim, Young Scrooge and Little Fan (Scrooge’s sister).

Adapted by Bolton writer Neil Duffield and directed by Associate Director Ben Occhipinti (Cinderella, Octagon Theatre Bolton, 2016-17), A Christmas Carol follows the heart-warming story of miserly Ebenezer Scrooge.

As the snow settles on the rooftops of a Victorian town, festive joy fills the hearts of every adult and child across the land. Except for miserable, miserly Ebenezer Scrooge who says “Bah humbug!” to the festive season… but all of that is about to change. When he is visited by the ghost of his old business partner Jacob Marley, Scrooge is taken on a mysterious journey of redemption through Christmases past, present, and future.

Acting and singing experience is not essential, but there will be singing involved in the roles. Please note these roles will be unpaid. The Octagon are looking for people with the playing age of between 11 and 14, and you must be over 7 years old to participate.

The production will run from Fri 17 November 2017 to Sat 13 January 2018. There will be two teams of six young people so you will only be needed for alternate performances.

The rehearsal period will begin on Sat 23 September and, for the first few weeks, rehearsals will take place on Saturday mornings. From mid-October, rehearsals will take place on Tuesdays 4-7pm, Thursdays 4-7pm and Saturdays 10am-1pm.

Two open audition workshops are being held at the Octagon Theatre Bolton on Wed 6 September 4-6pm and Thu 7 September 4-6pm.

Director Ben Occhipinti commented: “This is a wonderful chance for young people to come and bring to life a true Dickensian classic in an exciting, energetic festive production. Our festive productions are always full of fun, laughter, music, and magic so it’s fantastic to be including a young company as part of our ensemble, sharing stories together!”
