We're seeking new duologues for 50th anniversary season

We're delighted to launch the second year of our National Prize, encouraging new and original writing for the stage.

In celebration of the Octagon producing one of the most famous duologues in the theatrical canon Jim Cartwright’s TWO, entrants this year are invited to submit duologues of any theme or genre. Plays should be between 7,500 and 15,000 words long and must an original, unperformed and unproduced piece of work. Entrants over 16 with any level of experience are eligible to submit their work and the winning submissions will be performed in the Octagon Studio by professional actors during the theatre’s 50th anniversary season.

Judging the duologues will be an esteemed panel, including two former Artistic Directors of the Octagon Theatre, Andy Hay (Commissioner and Director of TWO in 1989) and John Adams (1984-1987), George Perrin (Artistic Director of world class new writing company Paines Plough) and returning to the judging panel is Amit Sharma (new Associate Artistic Director Royal Exchange Theatre and Associate Director, Graeae); Aisha Khan (Co-Artistic Director, Freedom Studios) and Octagon Theatre Artistic Director Elizabeth Newman. The rest of the panel will be announced in the New Year.

"As we enter the Octagon’s 50th anniversary I am so excited that these yet-to-be-discovered new plays will take centre stage as part of our anniversary season. It seems a fitting way to celebrate the theatre’s passion for developing new writing throughout its history."

Elizabeth Newman
