We are delighted to announce the participants of our very first spoken word event coming to The Octagon on Mon 4 November, in celebration of the world premiere production of Seagulls.
A celebration of new writing talent, the Octagon is hosting an evening of spoken word on Mon 4 November, 6-7pm at Bolton Library and Museum.
After a tremendous response to our call-out for applicants, nine talented poets have been selected to perform at the event.
Ciaran Cullen; George Melling; Hafsah Nibe aka TooDhaf; Heidi Henders; Ibby Ismali; Kat Rose-Martin; Rachael Norris; Sissy Goodlad; and Verity Agababian will all perform their own original works.
They will each perform a short piece around the topic of ‘coming of age’ in keeping with the issues explored in the show Seagulls, and the dilemmas the character’s face in this exciting modern adaption of Chekov’s classic.
Produced in association with A Lovely Word who regularly run popular spoken word events at Liverpool Everyman.
The event will be hosted by Alex Ferguson and will include a headline performance from multi-award winning Irish spoken word poet Ciarán Hodgers.
Artistic Director of the Octagon Lotte Wakeham comments: “We were overwhelmed by the response we received for submission to this new event, it demonstrates the volume of talent that we have on our doorstep. Here at the Octagon we are passionate about supporting and celebrating new writing and I am very excited to see them all perform.”
Tickets for the showcase event on Mon 4 November 6-7pm are free of charge but booking is recommended.
