Special performance of our festive show tailored for people living with dementia.
As part of our mission to be a fully accessible and inclusive venue we are hosting a Dementia Friendly performance of our festive show, Peter Pan, on Wednesday 5 January, 2022, at 2.15pm.
Dementia Friendly performances are tailored for people living with dementia and their families, friends and carers, so that they can continue to enjoy visits to the theatre in a supportive environment. A number of changes will be made to both the show and the venue to make sure that audiences are comfortable.
We know that some people who have previously loved coming to the Octagon may not feel as confident visiting us if they or a loved one have been diagnosed with dementia, so we are excited to be able to make this fun retelling of J.M. Barrie’s classic tale more accessible. Filled with music, mischief and magic, this is a great opportunity for people living with dementia to come to the theatre with their families.
To make sure our dementia friendly performances are genuinely comfortable and enjoyable, we have a group of Dementia Friendly Advisers, made up of people living with dementia and their carers. We invited them to watch a dress rehearsal of Peter Pan and help us plan the changes to this performance – they are the experts on how to accommodate people living with dementia and their input has been extremely valuable.
Some of the changes you can expect in our Dementia Friendly performance include: extra staff on hand to support audiences, changes to the show’s lighting and sound levels and quiet wellbeing spaces available before, during and after the show.
There will be a relaxed attitude in the auditorium to accommodate audience members who need to move around, make noise, and come and go during the show. A pre-show information pack will be sent to audiences before their visit which will include a visual guide to our theatre, details about the performance and other ‘good-to-know’ information.
If you’d like to book tickets, or have any questions, please contact our friendly Box Office team on 01204 520661 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
If new places cause anxiety for you, we'd be happy to offer a pre-show visit to familiarise yourself with the venue. If there are any aspects of your visit that we could help to make your experience more pleasant and enjoyable, please get in touch and talk to us and we will do our best to assist.
All tickets for Dementia Friendly performances are £15 and carers go free.
