Octagon Theatre Bolton nominated for UK’s Most Welcoming Theatre award 2017

Voting has begun to find the UK’s Most Welcoming Theatre 2017, in association with Smooth Radio, and Octagon Theatre Bolton is in the running!

The winners of this year’s award will be decided by a public vote between 12pm on Wed 9 August and 12pm on Tue 19 September 2017. Votes can now be cast on the UK Theatre website.

This year, there are more than 175 venues across the country competing to take home the title of Most Welcome Theatre. The 12 Regional and National winners of the vote will be announced on 29 September 2017. The overall winner of the award will be announced at the UK Theatre Awards on Sunday 15 October.

This is the opportunity for audiences to celebrate their local theatre, or a theatre that they have particularly enjoyed visiting, and all that theatre does for their community.

Chief Executive of Octagon Theatre Bolton Roddy Gauld said: “It’s very exciting to be nominated for this award. Our staff and volunteers here at the Octagon are passionate about theatre and about sharing theatre with the public. They are a fantastic and extremely friendly team, and this nomination is a testimony to their positivity, hard work, and warmth. We hope that our audiences have enjoyed their visits here at the Octagon and always feel welcome, whether it’s when they come to see a show, participate in one of our theatre groups, or visit our café for a bite to eat.”

The UK Theatre Awards are the only nationwide Awards to honour outstanding achievement in theatre throughout the United Kingdom. This year’s ceremony will take place at London’s historic Guildhall. The UK Theatre Awards are supported by Smooth Radio, White Light, Theatre Tokens, John Good, and Harbottle & Lewis.

Julian Bird, Chief Executive UK Theatre, said: “Most Welcoming Theatre is a chance for audiences to celebrate their local theatre and for venues to shout about the incredible work they are doing day in day out. Theatres are the backbone of communities across the country and this campaign highlights the vital work they do.”
