More shows announced in our autumn season

We are very excited to reveal even more shows coming to the Octagon this autumn which are all on sale now!

As we lift the curtain on Home, I’m Darling, the first show of our 2021 autumn season, we are delighted to announce further details of our full autumn programme.

We previously announced a teaser of our autumn line-up including a brand new co-production of Laura Wade’s comedy HOME, I’M DARLING, a magical adventure in Neverland with their festive production of PETER PAN and a new monthly COMEDY CLUB.

We can now reveal the full programme for the coming months.

An award winning improvised musical extravaganza, brand new series of play readings, first look at a brand new indie musical, wonderful family entertainment and on-line theatre all complete the autumn offering.

Opening the season is the Olivier Award winning comedy, HOME, I’M DARLING (Wed 1 September – Sat 2 October 2021). Laura Wade’s acclaimed play takes a hilarious look in to the marital bliss of perfect couple Judy and Johnny. But what happens when things begin to unravel; after all, the perfection of a 1950s domestic goddess is difficult to live up to in a 21st century world. Discover how nostalgia ain’t what it used to be in this brilliantly funny co-production with Keswick’s Theatre by the Lake and Stephen Joseph Theatre.

We will be flying audiences to Neverland in our magical festive production PETER PAN (Fri 26 November 2021 – Sun 9 January 2022). JM Barrie’s classic tale will be adapted for the stage by Sarah Punshon, with songs by Claire Tustin and Ziad Jabero. Get set for an awfully big adventure with fairies, crocodiles and pirates as Peter, Wendy and the Lost Boys take on the dastardly Captain Hook!  Filled with music, mischief and magic, it promises to be the perfect family treat.

Comedy fans will have their funny bones tickled with the launch of our new monthly comedy night. On the last Friday of each month (24 September, 29 October, 26 November) come down to the OCTAGON COMEDY CLUB and enjoy a hilarious night of live stand-up from some of the best names in comedy including Matt Richardson and Daliso Chaponda.

After a sell-out visit earlier this year, the musical extravaganza SHOWSTOPPER! THE IMPROVISED MUSICAL returns to delight Bolton audiences (Wed 20 & Thu 21 October). Taking suggestions from the audience, this Olivier Award-winning touring improvisational troupe will weave a brand new musical live on stage, complete with hilarious characters, fabulous dance routines, beautiful songs, epic storylines, all sprinkled with the pizzazz of a Broadway show where every night is a world premiere.

Our popular FIRST BITE play reading series is back as professional actors perform script-in-hand readings of three brand new plays.  This latest instalment includes: THIS TREE IS FOR THE CHOP (Fri 22 October) by Hannah Wilkin, FAKE (Thu 28 October) by Robert Hudson and CHOP CHOP! (Tue 2 November) by Afshan D’Souza Lodhi.

The season will also include a rehearsed reading of HOW SOON IS NOW? (Fri 1 October) a brand new indie musical by Sian Owen. Set to a live soundtrack of indie classics this must see reading presented by Box of Tricks takes audiences on a journey back to the 90s in a musical about mates, music, magic and self-discovery.

Bollywood meets Brass meets Bhangra with a performance from the UK’s pioneering Indian-style wedding band, THE BOLLYWOOD BRASS BAND (Sat 6 November) who blend the hottest Hindi film hits with riotous Indian wedding music and Punjabi beats. Promising great tunes and compulsively danceable rhythms, do not miss a chance to see one of the most colourful, joyful and exhilarating acts around.

Family entertainment is also on the bill this season.

SUE AND SITA (Fri 5 November) is a magical family show that uses puppetry, shadow theatre, and dance to celebrate identity and heritage from Indian-inspired Bollywood dance company Ri Ri’s Dance Academy.

Also for family audiences during October half term, M6 Theatre Company present the extraordinary tale of MAVIS SPARKLE (Tue 26 October) a cleaner who is on a journey north to see nature’s biggest light show with her own eyes. Featuring a heart-warming mix of illusion, animation and captivating performance, this life-affirming production inspires audiences to be brave, dust away doubts and reach for the stars!
