Check out what's coming up this autumn!
We are very excited to reveal the first details of our stellar autumn programme.
A brand new co-production of Laura Wade’s comedy Home I’m Darling, a magical adventure in Neverland, a new monthly comedy club and a family festival are all on the line-up.
Further programming announcements for our full autumn and winter schedule will be released in the coming weeks.
Kicking off our autumn offering is the Olivier Award winning comedy, Home I’m Darling (Wed 1 September – Sat 2 October 2021). Laura Wade’s acclaimed play takes a hilarious look in to the marital bliss of perfect couple Judy and John. But what happens when things begin to unravel; after all, the perfection of a 1950s domestic goddess is difficult to live up to in a 21st century world. Discover how nostalgia ain’t what it used to be in this brilliantly funny co-production with Keswick’s Theatre by the Lake and Stephen Joseph Theatre.
We will be flying audiences to Neverland in our magical festive production Peter Pan (Fri 26 November 2021 – Sun 9 January 2022), in an update to our previously announced festive title. JM Barrie’s classic tale will be adapted for the stage by Sarah Punshon, with songs by Claire Tustin and Ziad Jabero. Get set for an awfully big adventure with fairies, crocodiles and pirates as Peter, Wendy and the Lost Boys take on the dastardly Captain Hook! Filled with music, mischief and magic, it promises to be the perfect family treat.
Comedy fans will have their funny bones tickled as we launch a new monthly comedy night. On the last Friday of each month (24 September, 29 October, 26 November) come down to the Octagon Comedy Club and enjoy a hilarious night of live stand-up from some of the best names in comedy including Matt Richardson and Daliso Chaponda.
Before all that, we will be bringing fun for all ages with a new FREE family festival over the August bank holiday weekend (Fri 27 - Sun 29 August). Taking place alongside Bolton’s Food & Drink Festival, families will be invited to come to the Octagon to enjoy plenty of free activities including storytelling, dancing, craft activities and more! We have been working with local families to co-design the festival which promises to be a weekend filled with family fun.
On announcing the new season, the Octagon’s Artistic Director, Lotte Wakeham said: “It’s been a joy to welcome in our first audiences this summer for our Warm Up season, to experience the magic of live theatre in our beautiful new building.
