Actors announced for Best of Bolton 2018

Arthur Bostrom, Roberta Kerr, Charlotte Thorne and Rob Ward have been cast in the Octagon Theatre’s annual new writing showcase Best of Bolton

On Saturday 10 November the winning submissions of 50 writers, chosen from 300 entries, will be performed live by a cast of professional actors in the Lecture Theatre at Bolton Central Library.

The brilliant new writing will be brought to life by Arthur Bostrom, Roberta Kerr, Charlotte Thorne and Rob Ward who will rehearse the pieces alongside the writers and the Octagon’s New Writing Associate Janys Chambers.

Charlotte Thorne recently performed as Rhama in Flight for the Octagon’s Reveal Festival 2018. Rob Ward is currently touring his own play Gypsy Queen across the UK and was named one of British Council's Emerging Artists at the 2017 Edinburgh Fringe.

Roberta Kerr had long-running roles on Emmerdale, The Archers and Coronation Street and also played Mrs Alexander in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nightime (The National Theatre UK & Ireland tour).

Arthur Bostrom, most famous for his role as Officer Crabtree in the long-running BBC TV sitcom 'Allo 'Allo!, has supported new writing in Bolton by performing in the event now for three years running.

New Writing Associate Janys Chambers says: “The best part of the process is having the writers present in the room whilst the actors are rehearsing their work. I think it’s really rewarding for them to see the actors bringing their writing to life, even more so when they see it being performed in front of an audience. I’m thrilled to be working with such talented actors and writers and to showcase the diverse and thriving creative community in Bolton. ”

Among those to have submitted their work to be performed are children’s author Simon James, RADA actor Vanessa Schofield (Hard Times Northern Broadsides), and Dyan Colclough expert in British child performers from the Victorian times to early 20th century at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Best of Bolton will be performed on Saturday 10 November, 2pm and 7.30pm, in the Lecture Theatre at Bolton Central Library. For tickets visit https://octagonbolton.co.uk/whats-on/theatre/best-of-bolton-2018/
