Every year we produce a report which highlights the wonderful work we do on our stages and in the community. Our report for April 2015 - March 2016 is now complete and can be viewed below!
"We have had a fantastic year here at the Octagon – with record box office figures, critical success and the appointment of new Artistic Director, Elizabeth Newman.
Our work continued the standards the theatre has become renowned for and we ended the year with continued grant funding, pledges for capital investment and a growing national reputation.
We strive to produce a balanced programme of intelligent and accessible work in our main auditorium that engages and inspires the widest possible audience. This year was no exception with nine productions, including two world premieres and we were delighted to cap the year off by winning six Manchester Theatre Awards, judged by local critics. Our box office broke the £1M mark for the first time, and the The BFG was the highest grossing show in the theatre’s history.
Through our new artistic vision, we have also increased our engagement with Bolton communities including our first ever Open Day where we welcomed a diverse audience through our doors, many for the first time. Engaging our community is vital and as well as the over 77,000 people who saw a performance, thousands more aged from 5 to over 70 took part in our artistic projects. Our new BA (Hons) Theatre degree in partnership with the University of Bolton welcomed its first students, in what is an exciting new venture to develop the next generation of theatre professionals.
Such excellence and reach are underpinned by continued grant funding and during the year we also secured pledges for major capital investment to take place in 2018. All in all, the Octagon’s future looks very exciting indeed."
