The University of Bolton's Theatre & Performance courses are informed by current industry practice and benefit from strong links with the Octagon and other arts organisations in the North West. Teaching is undertaken in dedicated studio and performance spaces in our Specialist Queen’s Theatre Building, as well as at the Octagon.

In particular areas such as performance and contemporary theatre practice; arts administration and management; technical production; education and community arts; events management; cultural policy; media or creative arts. As a graduate of a Theatre or Performing Arts degree you will possess skills, knowledge and experience that will prove invaluable for your future career. The University's innovative Theatre course combines academic study with a deep insight into professional theatre practice. It’s delivered in partnership with the Octagon Theatre Bolton.

BA (Hons) Theatre and Performance

The Professor of Theatre, David Thacker, is an Olivier Award winning director and Associate Artistic Director at the Octagon Theatre Bolton. Prof. David Thacker supports our lecturers and programme leaders in providing a course which combines a rich variety of practical learning activities (including acting, directing and rehearsing) with core critical and analytical modules. The programme also provides you with an introduction to all aspects of performance and direction, participatory theatre, technical theatre and design and historical and contemporary theatre practice.
