“Well, I came to Bolton, in 1964 9th of February to get married. And, when I came to this country to Bolton I found that it was a winter, very very cold days, and the days are very short and I was thought what I'm doing here?”

Sue arrived to Bolton from Kenya and over nearly 60 years has made it her home.

Her husband worked in the textile trade – spinning, winding, weaving – but she came with existing skills and unusually was able to transfer directly into a job at Barclays Bank.

Her stories take us inside her first day nerves, slowly getting used to a very different culture, her change of career to work in the maternity unit at Bolton Hospital, a role she eventually received an MBE for, and a wealth of rich and fascinating first-hand information about the social history of Bolton.
