In this new blog series our Wardrobe Manager Su Newell will show you how to create your own Crazy Patchwork design.
Now you know what Crazy Patchwork is, here is everything you will need over the coming weeks to create your own:
Choosing the next patch: The fabric I have chosen was used for Long John Silver’s waistcoat in our recent production of Treasure Island.
Choosing your next fabric
My next Fabric - Newspaper material from The BFG:
I decided on something a bit different for the next patch – a Future fabric – something that we have at the theatre that has yet to be made into a costume.
I loved all the costumes for Private Lives, designed by Amanda Stoodley, and just oozing 1930’s sophistication.
Now to add another decorative stitch. Chain stitch is a line of looped stitches.
This fabric has led a double life. It is a soft cotton with a blue and green leaf print, made into a fifties style dress with a button front and matching belt.
We don’t only make costumes in the Wardrobe Department – sometimes we are asked to contribute to a project in a different way.
In this blog Su uses fabric from Jane Eyre and shows us how to do a Lazy Daisy stitch.
