As excitement builds for the 2021 Academy Awards we take a look back at Vanessa Kirby’s time at the Octagon.
Vanessa, who has been nominated for Best Actress at this year’s ceremony, has had a prolific career across stage, TV and film since she first trod the boards at the Octagon in 2009.
Vanessa turned down a place at the prestigious drama school LAMDA, deciding instead to do on the job training with a one year rep season right here at the Octagon after auditioning for our then Artistic Director, David Thacker, who offered her starring roles in 3 of our 2009-2010 season productions.
She made her professional stage debut at the Octagon playing Ann in David Thacker’s 2009 production of Arthur Miller’s All My Sons. This was followed by playing Regina in Ibsen’s classic play Ghosts and finally as Helena in Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
We went through our archive and found these great images of Vanessa's time at the Octagon...
The 93rd Academy Awards ceremony will take place at 1am (BST) on Monday 26 April which you can watch live on Sky Cinema.
Good luck Vanessa from everyone at the Octagon!
