Octagon Reimagined - Photo Update July 2020

Last week we put our stamp on the new building with the Octagon signs installed!

Although the progress of the building has been delayed due to Covid-19 we are one step closer to having the world class cultural resource ready.

There has been huge progress made to the site and the building is shaping up nicely!

As you can see from the outside of the building the paving outside is going in, the signs and posters are in place and the entrance is nearly ready!

The new seats for the auditorium are not yet here but the seating bleachers are being installed and the handrails are in place - the seats will be installed in the next few weeks.

The brand new studio will be home to much of our Creative Engagement work as well as performances. The new lighting rig in this space is LED and can be lowered to the ground. This will allow lighting to be changed more easily and open up more possibilities for teaching the technical side to theatre.

The second studio is at the top of the building and will often be used for rehearsals. The space will be a lovely open and light place for actors and directors to work.

This beautiful birch ply is currently being installed to surround the heart of our building - the auditorium.

Many people are looking forward to bars and restaurants opening next week. Ours won't be ready just yet, but it is coming together nicely. With the bars made out of recycled wood from our original stage floor and the kitchen being installed this week, the new Kitchen and Bar will be a welcoming space for people to come and enjoy good food and drink.

Backstage the dressing rooms are being fitted out and are nearly ready for the actors!

The Crescent Room is our new multipurpose event space. The room has wonderful views across Le Mans Crescent and will be available to hire.

We will keep you updated with how the building progresses in the following weeks and months until we can open our doors and welcome you all in.

2020 was set to the Octagon's most exciting year but without warning, Covid-19 has meant we are facing one our biggest challenges. We are determined that we will be back and can't wait to share this amazing new building with audiences - but we need your help. If you can, please consider making a donation to the Octagon Future Fund.
