Construction for our major redevelopment of the building is well underway - here is an update of the latest images of the site.
The inside of the auditorium now has scaffolding erected ready for the new seating to be installed. The shape and intimacy of our auditorium won't be changing but there will be new seats, more handrails and better temperature control.
The steel work currently being constructing is now giving us an idea of the shape of the new building. The building will be 40% bigger than before and will accommodate a purpose built studio, a brand new classroom sized learning space, new offices and backstage areas including wardrobe facilities and wheelchair accessible dressing rooms and rehearsal space. There will also be a new entrance and foyer, a two level café/bar and more toilets including a changing places toilet.
Here you can see the stairs starting to be built for the rear of the building. These will go up to our fully accessible rehearsal room on a brand new floor of the building.
With less than a year now before we reopen in Spring 2020 we still have £600,000 left to raise, and only 35 of our special gold bricks remaining. These will be displayed in the new foyer displaying gold brick donors names, and will be made from the retained wooden flooring of the original theatre. A truly nostalgic way to support the project - find out more
