Octagon 2021 moments

Octagon 2021 moments

2021 has been a rollercoaster of a year for many - the Octagon included! Whatever the challenges have been we have had some very special moments in 2021 including opening our doors in our new building for the very first time! Take a look at some of our favourites...

Touring Reynard the fox to Bolton communities

This summer we took theatre out on the road with the family show Reynard the Fox, visiting different outdoor locations around Bolton and surrounding areas.

HOME I'M DARLING

Audiences loved the co-production of Laura Wade's retro comedy Home, I'm Darling this autumn.

Groups returned to the Octagon!

After 3 years away from the building our brilliant creative engagement groups got to return to the Octagon in their new home in our Studio!

SEE YOU AT THE OCTAGON

The first show in the brand new Octagon was See You At The Octagon - a new play inspired by experiences of people in Bolton throughout the pandemic.

RIGHT TO ROAM

In summer we hosted the first ever Right to Roam music festival - welcoming music fans into the Octagon and other town centre venues.

ONE NIGHT IN BOLTON RADIO PLAY

After being delayed in 2020 due to the pandemic our Young Octagon theatre company finally got to perform One Night In Bolton - this time as a radio play that premiered on Bolton FM!

SUPPORTING OUR NHS

Early in 2021 we couldn't open our doors for audiences but we were thrilled to be able to support our NHS by providing space for the vaccine rollout effort. We continued to support our local NHS throughout the year through providing tickets to NHS staff and volunteers, raising money for a local NHS charity and providing a recorded version of our festive show to be enjoyed by patients on the children's ward of the Royal Bolton Hospital.

THE FABRIC OF BOLTON

Laitaben Mistry at St Helena Mill 1979 - 1983

In partnership with Bolton Solidarity Community Association (BSCA), The Fabric of Bolton celebrates Bolton’s industrial heritage, from a fresh and less commonly heard perspective. This short documentary film premiered at Bolton Film Festival and can be viewed online now here.

PETER PAN

Our show Peter Pan has delighted audiences this festive season - both in person and by watching at home - we have entertained 1000s of children with this fantastically fun retelling of J.M Barrie's classic. Still time to catch the show - open until Sun 9 January - find out more.

OCTAGON FAMILY FESTIVAL

One of the highlights of our year was seeing the building full of children enjoying our free weekend long Family Festival - with craft, storytelling and a family disco!

So that's just a selection of some of our favourite 2021 moments - there are many, many more - let us know your favourite!
